【Event Report】Japan-Norway Green Maritime Seminar

On April 18, 2023, the Norwegian Embassy in Japan and the Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (NCCJ) organized a Japan-Norway Green Maritime Seminar in Aurora Hall at the Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo. The seminar was followed by a reception at Ambassador Ms. Inga Nyhamars’ residence, where the participants had the opportunity to network and share ideas. The seminar aimed to explore the latest trends, challenges, and solutions related to sustainable shipping practices and to promote collaboration in maritime industry.

The seminar was opened by a short speech from Ms. Inga Nyhamar, Ambassador to Norway in Japan.

NCCJ Partner SAYFR had Mr. Yuzuru Goto and NCCJ member Navtor, with Mr. Børge Hetland, Chief Commercial Officer who presented at the seminar. Furthermore, the speakers were Mr. Morten Lind Olsen, CEO Dualog, Mr. Sven Brooks, Interim CEO at ScanReach, together with a video message from Mr. Harald Solberg (CEO Norwegian Shipowners’ Association) and a keynote speech by Mr. Hideyuki Ando (Director Monohakobi Technology Institute).

Speaker Mr. Yuzuru Goto (NCCJ Partner SAYFR) presented about how SAYFR aims to prevent incidents by turning failures into something that benefits everyone. The importance of companies understanding its organizational culture and how improving its organization culture can lead improved and safe working conditions in the maritime industry. With SAYFRs SafeMind and Cultiv8 tools, accidents can be reduced, members of the organization can open up and share ideas, risks and accidents while working towards safer operations.

The participants had the opportunity to ask questions, network, and learn from each other's experiences. Overall, the Green Maritime Seminar highlighted how the companies could complement each other by sharing knowledge, thanks to the insightful and inspiring presentations of the speakers, including NCCJ partner SAYFR and NCCJ member Navtor. The seminar demonstrated the commitment to promoting more sustainable business practices and to contributing to a greener and more prosperous future in the maritime industry.
