Yakatabune Cherry Blossom Evening Cruise

The Norway-Japan Society (NJS) kindly invites members and friends of NCCJ to a Yakatabune Evening Cruise, on board a Yakatabune (traditional Japanese houseboat) on Wednesday, 27th March 2019. This is the first time NJS organizes this dinner boat cruise during the cherry blossom season, and you are strongly encouraged to participate in the event!

Unlike previous cruise events held in September, we will first pass under the illuminated Rainbow Bridge and head to Sumida River. We will then cruise along the river toward the direction Tokyo Sky Tree up to Sakura Bridge. The boat will anchor for an hour at the Sakura Bridge area, and enjoy an excellent combination of Tempura, Sashimi and other Japanese foods. During the time we’re stationed by the Sakura Bridge you can also go up to the deck to see the light-up cherry blossom and Tokyo Sky Tree nearby from the boat. On the way back there is karaoke available on board for those who like to sing. Feel free to bring your family and friends for this fun occasion!

According to the cherry blossom forecasts the flowers will start to bloom on the 22nd and peak on 30th March in this area, so we will be able to enjoy cherry blossom close to its peak from our boat.

Cocktail Night @ Fuglen Asakusa

Our NCCJ Club Evening is back again, and we continue our quest to explore Norwegian establishments in Tokyo. This month we check out the venue of our Corporate Member Fuglen Asakusa, a cafe that recently opened up their doors following the great success of the original Fuglen in Tomigaya (Shibuya).

Fuglen is known as a showcase for Norwegian vintage design and coffee culture in Japan - but this time we’re invited to try out their assortment of exotic cocktails, including drinks based on the Norwegian national spirit called aquavit. The participation fee includes two drinks from their menu, and from there you get to choose yourself whether or not you want to order something in addition.

fuglen-neighborhood.jpg

After the event you are welcome to take a stroll through the neighboring Senso-ji, where you can enjoy the sight of the peaceful temple buildings - at night the temple is lit up, and unlike daytime there are only a few visiting tourists around.

We hope that you'll take this opportunity not only to join us for an enjoyable evening but also to make new connections and catch up with old friends and acquaintances!

The Norwegian Club Evening is an informal gathering for members and friends of the NCCJ.

Taco Tuesday and ØL

Our NCCJ Club Evening is taking a new turn this month as we gather at the Norwegian bar ØL in Shibuya for beer and tacos. Did you know that tacos are so popular in Norway that having a Taco Friday has become a phenomenon in many Norwegian homes? While this event takes place on a Tuesday we're still excited to combine it with some taco - so please come join us for a Taco Tuesday!

Our venue for the evening, ØL Tokyo, is one of the very few Norwegian operated establishments in Tokyo, and with an array of both Norwegian and local beer on the menu, we are convinced that you'll be pleased with the assortment for the night. Participants get a set of two tacos and a bottle of “Norwegian Blonde” beer from our Corporate Member Oslo Brewing Co., and from there you get to choose yourself whether or not you want to order something in addition.

We hope that you'll take this opportunity not only to join us for an enjoyable evening but also to make new connections and catch up with old friends and acquaintances!

Hotel bookings:
Please book your own hotel! We have gathered a list of hotels in Hakuba. Please find HERE for the Hotellist.
Due to an upturn in the ski industry and interest from tourists, the weekends are usually well booked. Therefore, please book early!

Transport to the location:
Please choose your own modes of transport. The following public transport are working well in our experience:
– Shinkansen to Nagano Station, then switch to Highway Bus, approx. 2 ½ to 3 hours
Highway buses from Nagano station depart every hour. Take the East Exit at Nagano station and get on Hakuba bound buses at bus stop no. 6.
The Bus stop in Happo-one, Hakuba, is about 5min walk to the hotel

– Super Azusa Chuo limited express train directly to Hakuba station, approx. 4 hours
After arrival at Hakuba station you best take a taxi to your hotel or ask the hotel how to go there (approx. 10min by car)

– Highway Bus from Shinjuku to Happo-one, approx. 4,5 hours
Cost conscious solution with approx. JPY 9,000 go and return

Ski equipment:
If you have no ski equipment, no worries! There are plenty of rental shops in Hakuba. We recommend the Head Sports Station ( http://head-sportsstation.jp/hakuba/).
